(I stole that from Louis Lamour's title of his auto-bio, don't read too much into it)

Help me learn to like Hardcore Christian Music,        please.     Educate Me!!!!!

What do you suggest that an old fart, that LOVES GodRock, starts out with to get his feet wet in Hardcore?

Think of it like this.....what is the Michael W. Smith/Amy Grant (circa 83') of Hardcore and, eventually, wean me onto a steadier diet of modern Hardcore.

Your Help Is Greatly Appreciated

Here is what I would recommend for starters, the cookie monster vocals are not so brutal,
Mayleen and the Sons of Disaster*
Dead Poetic*
Demon Hunter
Blindside*
Underoath
Staple*
Nodes of ranvier
War of Ages
The Showdown*
Flee the Seen

Some of those on the list are not very "HardCore" but the are in the vein the ones with the * are the easier bands to swallow

^Thanks.  I know a few songs by Demon Hunter and Blindside, and I have heard Staple here...just a few.  Nodes of R. is a band that I have read about, so I have looked them up a time or two.

I am gonna' take these suggestions and start listening and checking out their lyrics.  I think, that, if I read their lyrics first, it will help me get into it more.  I do like the music, I just don't understand the fairly (IMO) universal sound of the vocalists......but, I am willing to learn   .

Thanks
Keep the suggestions/comments coming
I'll let you know how the exploration is going

Okay, requested Maylene "Caution, Dangerous Curves Ahead" and  Jesus Wept (John 11:35, BTW   ) "Against The Grain"......

The Maylene song was VERY Good, I may download it, but ALL the hype about them being "Southern", I think (IMO) is a matter of semantics.    BUT, I DID Like it!!!

Okay, the Jesus Wept song, I think I have heard before, here, of course, and I DID Like it also!!!!

I probably will download both these!!!!

Keep the suggestions coming!!

df

P.S.  Are both these groups "Metal Core" ??  LOL, seriously, just can't help lol!!

I don't know what Mayleen would be called but they are good they are the only Hardcore band my Dad will listen to he is 51. Jesus Wept is just a classic Hardcore band.
I'll point you towrd "Metal CORE" That would be Demon Hunter. I recommend from them
UnDying
Not I
Infected
My Mouth is an Open Grave

Haste the Day is another
From them

Blue 42
When Everything Falls

Those are a couple Metal Core bands

P.S.  Is it the vocals that make it a "____core" band?  There is no-one doing instrumental "(something)core" is there?

I think that in general the vocals just come with Hard core, but sometimes they do some clean vocals,or mostly clean vocals instead of the cokie monster vocals.
Metal core indicates more of a metal sound you may even get guitar solos, and more technical play. That is like Demon Hunter
Hard core is like Jesus Wept lots of yelling, gang vocals probably not guitar solos sometimes a little sloppy play. I think personally standard hardcore reminds me a lot of punk.
There are some other hard core forms too Post -Hardcore is like organized chaos. Norma Jean, and Zao are in that line it is everyting about Hardcore but even harder.
I would say if you were in a band that did Hardcore instrumentals they would call it Instrumental Hardcore.

I think some of this sub genere labeling is kinda crazy

So, I have listened to some of the new Showdown cd Temptation Come My Way the 2007 version.  Elsewhere, peeps are up-in-arms over the lack of screaming and more singing   .

Anyway, are they still hardcore, or just metal, or does it matter?  Do you like it?  I guess that is my question.  I do like it, is that because it really isn't hardcore?

Lots of questions here  .  Feel free to ignore them!!!  Cause', I'm gonna end up getting what I like anyway   .

I love the new Showdown album better than the first one but no that is not hardcore anymore that is straight up metal. A bold move by them to completely change the sound but i think it will pay off for them

BTW, read where people consider them "southern" metal/hardcore.......CAN"T "hear" the southern in some of these bands.
